AMAN began with an aspiration to give concrete form to a certain understanding on accelerating the process of social development towards the dream of an egalitarian society and committed to the line of wording directly with the local community. It believes that all development work needs to be done with a people-centered development and to view various local-level programs form this perspective. An analytical lens ought always to be included in both the conception and the execution of any program.

AMAN came into being in 1999, as public charitable trust and later got registered under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act. It had been active for sixteen years and has evolved as Implementing cum Resource Organization. The persons associated with have all been senior workers active in the social sector and have a long experience of working at various levels. They have been involved in the capacity building of social activists in Uttarankhand and beyond, sometimes in the personal capacity, and otherwise on behalf of AMAN.
